Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) representing smoking control activists have embarked on a worldwide crusade to "de-normalize" smoking in public. The efforts of these NGOs have recently targeted the hospitality industry in general and gaming jurisdictions in particular to implement California-style smoking bans. If successful, these efforts will have a significant impact on the gaming industry. The facts are clear: Despite the well-intentioned efforts of governments, the majority of patrons accommodated by gaming establishments throughout the world chose to smoke. The gaming industry depends on accommodating the comfort requirements for the majority of patrons.
