Bio: John Velier received his bachelor’s degree in industrial security administration from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in social justice from the University of Illinois. He was a police officer for two years, a chief of security at a university and a college instructor prior to becoming a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Velier spent 25 years in the FBI, rising through the ranks and finishing his career at the FBI Academy as the chief of management development, education and communication arts. Upon retirement, he worked for several Las Vegas gaming companies in security consulting, human resources and training. Since May 2001, he has been the corporate manager of investigations for Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. He is a certified lodging security director, certified workplace violence prevention specialist and a certified tennis professional. He is a member of the American Society for Industrial Security, FBI National Academy Associates, National Executive Institute Associates, Law Enforcement Executive Development Associates, and the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
