The UNLV International Gaming Institute (IGI) is part of the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration. The goal of the Institute is to be the premier source of information and training for the gaming industry. Our mission is to provide educational programs, conduct gaming research and disseminate gaming knowledge via seminars, classes and publications to individuals, businesses and governments throughout the world.

IGI is a non-profit academic institution. It fills a much needed role in training regulatory agents and Board and Commission members. The training was initially offered to US regulators but has expanded as new international jurisdictions legalized casino gaming and US casino operators entered these new markets. The regulatory training is done in concert with the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

IGI also offers educational programs for the gaming industry. Courses are regularly offered at the Stan Fulton Building and IGI will commence distance education courses in 2007 offering classes and a gaming management certification. IGI specializes in tailoring programs for international groups. These courses usually consist of 1- 3 weeks of training which includes casino tours, educational offerings taught by UNLV professors and industry operators, and meetings with casino executives. In addition, IGI will provide courses outside of Nevada, training regulators in their gaming jurisdictions, and operators at a casino. By providing this service, IGI makes the educational experience available to a much greater audience.

One of IGI's assets is the physical plant located in the Stan Fulton Building. The building features a state-of-the-art casino laboratory; a computer lab/classroom; a spacious conference center; numerous conference rooms; a fully equipped surveillance room for teaching gaming surveillance; faculty and administrative offices; and the latest in distance education technology.

In addition to classes, the IGI publishes the UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal, a twice yearly, peer-reviewed publication. The publication started in 1994 and disseminates scholarly findings on commercial gaming. It reaches inside gaming to cover laws and regulations, management, technology, trends and developments. It emphasizes insights from economics, sociology, and psychology to shed light on a variety of aspects of the hospitality and gaming industry.

IGI strives to be both a leader and innovator in gaming education, building a bridge between academia and the gaming industry.
