GLOBAL GAMING EXPO ATTENDANCE CLIMBS 53%
Show Emerges as the Premier Annual Gathering for Gaming Industry Worldwide
Las Vegas—Global Gaming Expo (G2E), the industry’s leading international gaming trade show and conference organized by the American Gaming Association (AGA) and Reed Exhibitions, experienced a 53% increase in attendance at this year’s event, held September 17-20 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Preliminary non-audited attendance figures indicate there were 13,237 attendees, compared to 8,653 at the event’s October 2001 launch. The exhibit floor saw a significant increase in the number of companies present, from 375 comprising 133,333 square feet in 2001 to 616 representing 190,400 square feet this year. Of particular interest on this year’s show floor were the new Interactive/Internet Gaming and Bingo Pavilions launched at the event.
“As our attendance figures illustrate, there is without a doubt a demand for cutting-edge new products and educational information to drive the success and growth of gaming entertainment facilities domestically and worldwide,” notes Frank J. Fahrenkopf, Jr., president and CEO of the AGA. “Reed and the AGA are committed to facilitating such growth by producing this event every year. We’re pleased that G2E has become one of the strongest business-to-business forums for our industry.”
G2E participants represented all fifty U.S. states and countries from around the world, including Argentina, Austria, Australia, Aruba, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brazil, Bahamas, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Germany, Greece, France, United Kingdom, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Malaysia, Netherlands, Peru, Russian Federation, Sweden, Slovenia, and Taiwan.
Daily Keynotes, State of the Industry Panel, Gaming Investment Forum Among Show Highlights
In addition to show floor buying and selling activity, more than 120 conference sessions addressing a myriad of gaming industry issues were held, complemented by daily keynotes and forums discussing the state of the industry today. Sam Donaldson, 35-year ABC news veteran and one of America’s most trusted reporters and commentators, delivered the opening day keynote, followed by Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and Wheel of Fortune hosts Pat Sajak and Vanna White, who welcomed the thousands arriving to G2E on its first day of business. The convention’s second day opened with the State of the Industry Panel, which drew nearly 1,000 attendees and featured leading gaming executives in a question-and-answer session that covered topics such as gaming expansion, racinos, Indian gaming, disordered gambling, and media coverage of the industry. G2E’s final day opened with a Q&A; featuring American icon Merv Griffin, who was also honored with a lifetime achievement award for gaming and entertainment and inducted into the Gaming Hall of Fame at the annual AGA Awards Dinner Honoring America’s Gaming Greats, one of G2E’s evening functions benefiting the National Center for Responsible Gaming.
Other popular events featured at the conference included “Wall Street Ways Analysts Roundtable,” offering financial market information from analysts representing leading firms including Bear Stearns & Co. Inc., Goldman Sachs & Co., Inc., Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan and UBS Warburg, and the Gaming Investment Forum, sponsored by Bear Stearns & Co. Inc. and Goldman Sachs & Co., Inc. On September 20, G2E held its exclusive Training and Development Institute and the new Interactive Gaming Symposium for gaming industry professionals.
