STATE OF THE GAMING INDUSTRY ADDRESSED TODAY AT GLOBAL GAMING EXPO
Gaming's Economic and Legislative Climates, Corporate and Fiscal Responsibility, Native American Gaming Updates, and International Gaming Markets Among the Issues Discussed
Las Vegas—A panel featuring some of the gaming industry's key leaders was at the forefront today at the State of the Industry Keynote Address held at Global Gaming Expo (G2E). G2E, the leading trade event for the worldwide gaming community, continues its run at the Las Vegas Convention Center with 616 exhibits and conference programs tomorrow and the event's Training and Development Institute and Interactive Gaming Symposium scheduled for Friday, September 20th.
Today's State of the Industry Keynote panel featured gaming's highest dignitaries in a question-and-answer session addressing a myriad of gaming issues. Panel participants included Bill Boyd, chairman and CEO of Boyd Gaming, Peter Carlino, chairman and CEO of Penn National Gaming, Michael Gauselmann, CEO of Atronic International, Phil Satre, chairman and CEO of Harrah's Entertainment, and Ernie Stevens, chairman of the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA). The panel was hosted and moderated by American Gaming Association (AGA) President and CEO Frank J. Fahrenkopf, Jr.
Nearly 1,000 attendees were on hand for today's keynote, where the panelists discussed gaming concerns including: the effects of 9/11 on the casino market in Las Vegas compared to that of riverboat markets; taxation and capital investment and its role in global casino expansion in Europe and abroad; the economic benefits of merging racing and casino establishments into ‘racinos; the current state and legislative climates of Indian and tribal gaming in Nevada, California and other parts of the U.S.; current management structures among the industry's leading casino establishments; and the global industry's responsibility to address disordered gambling.
"The constantly evolving economic and legislative dynamics of the gaming industry clearly necessitate an annual open meeting of the minds," said the AGA's Fahrenkopf. "Our panel of senior level executives are experts in providing insight into what the industry is doing today, but more importantly, they set the agenda for what we'll see tomorrow. The AGA is committed to continuing to provide such forums to create a valuable exchange of information for all participants comprising the worldwide gaming community."
Global Gaming Expo (G2E) is organized by the American Gaming Association and Reed Exhibitions. The AGA represents the commercial casino-entertainment industry by addressing federal legislative and regulatory issues. The association also serves as a clearinghouse for information, develops educational and advocacy programs, and provides leadership on industry-related issues of public concern.
Reed Exhibitions is the world leader in creating high profile, targeted industry events where buyers and suppliers come together to do business. Every year, Reed events bring together some 160,000 suppliers and over nine million buyers from around the world. Today, Reed events are held in 35 countries throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia/Pacific, and are organized by 30 fully staffed offices. Reed's portfolio of 470 events services 49 industries in 12 key sectors.
